What would you do if you were just passing through Grand Central Station and suddenly, amid all the hustle bustle, hundreds of people just FROZE…Right in mid action….Spontaneously just froze….For like five minutes….And then, out of nowhere, they just started moving again and walked away? You’d probably laugh out laud, a lot, and say “what the hell just happened?!” Perhaps, you’d smile, chuckle to yourself, and emphatically say “THAT was awesome.” Regardless, you’d definitely have a great story to tell all your friends and co-workers about the random and amazing experience you just had. You’d also have Über Content’s newest director, Charlie Todd, to thank for it. Charlie is the scene causing mastermind behind some of the most genius, hilarious, creative, good-hearted pranks this city has ever seen. He is the founder of the now famous group IMPROV EVERYWHERE, known for the Frozen Grand Central, The Mute Button, Human Mirror, and a host of other pranks. Charlie pioneered the idea of “flashmobs” before they were even called that.
For the past 11 years, Charlie’s been bringing groups of people together to execute an improv prank (or “mission” as he calls it) designed to make people smile and give them a good story to tell. Mixing improvisational comedy, performance art, and plain old prankstering, Charlie has reintroduced the idea of random play to everyday life. His most famous work is probably No Pants Subway Day, now in it’s 12th year, it’s grown from one subway car on the 6 train with 7 dudes in their underwear to 3500 people without pants riding the New York City transit system, plus countless others in 59 other cities in 28 countries around the world…. all going pantless on the same day in January.
As a director, Charlie will bring this playful and creative sense of humor to create very original content. Anything from staging a mission for a brand and capturing it on film via his strategically hidden cameras, to creating an prank as an interactive experience, Charlie’s creates hilarious scenarios and stories that resonate with the people long after their inital experience. His fundamentals for making people laugh translate across all media. Get to know Charlie by watching his TED talk, “The Shared Experience of Absurdity” and then give us a call and see what he can bring to your next project. We guarantee it will be like nothing anyone’s ever scene before (pun!).
